Labels:text | screenshot OCR: Coin History [ 1908] On 2 January 1908, Earl Grey officially opened the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint. He activated a press to strike the first domestically produced coin, a silver 50-cent piece. A few minutes after, ONE Countess Grey struck the first bronze coin, a CENT one-cent piece. The reverses of the one-cent and 50-cent coins struck in 1908. Note the serpentine of maple leaves on the one-cent coin and the garland of maple leaves on the 50-cent coin.
